CELTIC…7
(Tierney 7, Nygren 10 & 83, Osmand 36 & 38, Duran 49, McCart OG 45+1)

HEARTS…1
(Mendy 41)

In the first meeting between the sides since the final day of last season, Celtic have destroyed Hearts 7-1 at Celtic Park, with Kieran Tierney, Callum Osmand, Benjamin Nygren and Camilo Durán all getting on the scoresheet for Celtic

Martin O’Neill’s men got off to the best possible start, taking the lead with just seven minutes gone through Kieran Tierney.

Mika Baur sent a good ball towards the front post from a corner, with Liam Scales flicking it on, and Tierney was well-positioned just a few yards from goal to head it beyond Beau Reus and make it 1-0.

Just three minutes later, the Hoops doubled their advantage and again it came from a cormer into the box from Mika Baur. This time Hearts thought they had cleared the danger but Dane Murray kept the ball alive with an overhead kick which landed at the feet of Benjamin Nygren in the six-yard box.

The Swede showed great composure to guide the ball in to the bottom corner and make it 2-0 to Celtic.

The chances kept coming for the champions and with 17 minutes gone Haissem Hassan went agonisingly close with a good shot from the edge of the box after driving down the wing with the ball, but the Egyptian’s effort crashed off the post and was cleared away.

Benjamin Nygren then had a massive chance to make it three after some brilliant wing play from Haissem Hassan, but his shot from the centre of the box was saved by the legs of Reus.

Callum Osmand made it 3-0 with 35 minutes gone after Camilo Durán threaded a good ball through to him in the box.

Osmand produced an excellent finish to find the far corner and for a number of Hearts supporters in the away end, that goal was enough to have them heading for the exits.

The celebrations had barely subsided when Osmand added a fourth, and once again it was Camilo Durán with the assist. Benjamin Nygren had played a good pass to Durán, allowing the Colombian to have a shot at goal.

That effort was saved but Durán was there to pick up the rebound and send a ball to the back post which was headed in by Osmand to make it 4-0.

With five minutes of the half remaining, Hearts pulled a goal back through Laurent Mendy, but Celtic soon restored their four-goal lead with an inspired goal from Mika Baur.

The German weaved past several Hearts players in the box before chipping the ball towards goal. Hearts defender Jamie McCart got the last touch before the ball crossed the line, but the goal was all about Mika Baur’s quality and creativity.
