Last season Mika Baur was operating in the Bundesliga 2 with SC Paderborn, helping the then second-tier club gain promotion to the top flight of German football.

The midfielder didn't taste life in the top Bundesliga division, as his move to Celtic in the early-season transfer window saw the 22-year-old swap Germany for Scotland, but his form for the Hoops has ensured that he hasn’t been forgotten in his homeland.

Baur was named by Jürgen Klopp in the German squad for their recent UEFA Nations League matches, and he played against both Serbia and Greece during the international break, indeed becoming the 1,000th player to win a cap for Germany when he took to the field for his debut against the Serbians.

Now the new German internationalist only has his eyes set on taking to the field for Celtic at Fir Park this Sunday as the Celts travel to take on Motherwell in the first game following the international break.

He told the media today (Friday) of his international jaunt: “It was an incredible feeling, and amazing experience, but I'm very happy that I'm back now and we can move on here.

'Today in training I felt everyone is looking forward to Sunday, that it starts again and we can do some things much better than we did before the break.'

“I think the break was maybe at a good point as well, to come together again, stick together, work on a few things, and everyone is looking forward to Sunday.”

And Baur is hoping his form for the champions can lead to more appearances in the German national side, especially with the confidence and experience gained while on international duty for the first time.

He added: “Everyone can have a good reputation if the team works, if the team performances are good and for sure it helps. If you win a lot, the team plays good, so absolutely.”
