CELTIC…4

(Howe 6, Robertson 45, Gallacher 59, Craig 67)

SPARTANS…0

Celtic FC Women returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, running out 4-0 winners against Spartans.

Scoring twice in each half, Casey Howe and Lisa Robertson fired the Hoops in front in the opening 45, before Amy Gallacher and Chloe Craig added to the scoring in the second half.

After suffering their first defeat of the season last weekend, the Ghirls were aiming to get back to winning ways as they returned to home soil in Kirkintilloch.

Grant Scott named six changes to his side, with the most notable coming in the full-back area as Lauren Doran-Barr made her first start for the club.

The summer signing was joined in the starting line-up by Chloe Craig, Evie Rabjohn, Casey Howe and Hannah Luke who were also back in the side.

The Hoops got off to a strong start in Kirkintilloch as they looked to quickly recover from last weekend.

With several crosses into the box in the opening stages, the Celts looked in the mood for goals on Sunday afternoon.

And that strong start was rewarded with an early goal as Casey Howe opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes of the match.

Just as she had done a few weeks ago in the meeting between the two sides in the Sky Sports Cup, the winger was on hand to break the deadlock.

Chopping inside her marker, Howe found the bottom corner with a really well taken finish, putting the Hoops into a well-deserved early lead.

Celtic were clearly keen to add to their early advantage, pushing for a second shortly after opening the scoring.

Another player returning to the starting line-up, Evie Rabjohn, was unfortunate not to find the net, seeing a volleyed effort inside the area blocked.

Captain for the day, Amy Gallacher, was also unlucky to see a powerful effort blocked, on this occasion by her team-mate Izzy Fisher, who was trying her upmost to get out of the way, but helped the ball go behind for a goal-kick.

The Celtic number seven looked in the mood for a goal as she looked to open her account for the season, curling a strike narrowly wide of the target from the edge.

As the match approached half-time, that important second goal would come Celtic’s way eventually, through Lisa Robertson.

After being first to latch onto a loose ball on the edge, the midfielder powered home her second goal of the campaign to give Celtic a two-goal lead heading in at the break.

The Hoops continued their strong display heading into the second half, and just before the hour mark, Amy Gallacher got her goal.

Following a terrific piece of skill on the wing by Maria McAneny, the midfielder headed to the byline.

Finding Gallacher with her low cross, the forward made no mistake with her finish, striking home the Ghirls’ third goal of the day.

That goal allowed Grant Scott to ring some changes, which included Shannon McGregor who came on to make her 50^th appearance for the club.

The scoring was rounded off in the latter stages of the game from the penalty spot as Chloe Craig grabbed Celtic’s fourth.

After Casey Howe was judged to have been fouled inside the area, the defender expertly tucked the ball home to make the score 4-0 to Celtic.

It was the ideal response from Grant Scott’s side to a disappointing first defeat of the campaign last week.

The Ghirls now head into the first international break of the season, with another three points secured.
