It was on this day 60 years ago, on November 7, 1966, that Celtic lifted the second of what would be FIVE trophies in one season - the Glasgow Cup.

The team's glorious 1966/67 season kicked off in August, and the Hoops proved to be goal-hungry in that opening month with 30 goals scored for the loss of only four in the seven games played.

The tally was thus, four against Manchester United (friendly), five against Hearts (two League Cup games), nine against Clyde (two League Cup games) and eight against St Mirren (one League Cup game) leaving the other four for the Glasgow Cup - a competition that was still a major draw at the time.

It was on Tuesday, August 23 that Celtic travelled to Ibrox where a crowd of 76,456 took in the first derby of the season as the Glasgow Cup campaign kicked-off, and, by as early as the seventh minute the Celtic End was in rapture following the opener by Billy McNeill.

And this wasn’t your typical Cesar goal headed in from a corner! Following a midfield free-kick, he found himself in the inside-left position and beat his marker before slotting home a left-foot shot from a tight angle at the near post.

Then Bobby Lennox took over and fired in a cannonball left-foot shot from the edge of the area in the 32^nd minute to make it 2-0.

In the final 10 minutes, the Buzzbomb struck twice again to complete his hat-trick, the first from seven yards and the second from just inside the box to record a 4-0 win, and, just as importantly, lay down a marker for the season ahead.

Next up on Monday, October 10, Queen’s Park would visit Celtic Park in the semi-final, and they too would be on the receiving end of a 4-0 scoreline in a game that would lay claim to being Danish keeper, Bent Martin’s only game for the Celts.

The No.1 had little to do, though as goals from Joe McBride in the sixth and 88^th minutes sandwiched others from Bobby Lennox in the 30^th minute and Charlie Gallagher in the 48^thminute, placing the Celts in the final where they would meet Partick Thistle.

The final went ahead at Celtic Park 60 years ago today, on Monday, November 7 just eight days after the Hoops had lifted their first trophy of the season with a 1-0 win over Rangers at Hampden in the League Cup final.

What followed was another 4-0 win, and Bobby Lennox ensured he scored in every round of the Glasgow Cup by repeating his feat of netting a hat-trick in the first-round win at Ibrox.

It was Stevie Chalmers who got the ball rolling in the 12^th minute, though, one of two cup final goals he would score that season, the other possibly winning out in the importance stakes.

Then the hat-trick Bhoy came into his own again as he struck three times in less than 20 minutes – the 24^th, 26^th and 43^rd to be exact – to give Celtic a 4-0 scoreline that would remain until the end of the game.

And so, the second piece of silverware of what would become a five-trophy clean sweep was in the bag.
