Celtic FC Women were held to a 1-1 draw in their final league outing of the season at home against Partick Thistle.

In a match which summed up the Hoops’ league campaign, the Ghirls huffed and puffed, but couldn’t find the way to goal for a winner.

With a big Scottish Cup final to come next weekend at Hampden Park, Grant Scott’s side went into Sunday’s game knowing their position in the league.

That being said, the Celts would have been aiming to pick up all three points in their final match at New Douglas Park of the season.

And they went about their business by making the best possible start as Saoirse Noonan opened the scoring inside the first five minutes.

The Irish forward struck home her 26^th goal of the campaign, turning Jenny Smith’s cross into the back of the net to give Celtic the lead.

The Ghirls quickly went back on the offensive, looking to score a quick-fire second as Emma Lawton’s delivery into the box found the head of Poppy Pritchard. But she could only the palms of the Thistle goalkeeper.

Grant Scott’s side were looking to cause bother for the visitors on either win, with Darra Dawon getting high and wide, before delivering a good ball into the box, which was cleared.

Despite making a dominant start to proceedings, it was the away side who would strike the second goal of the game.

Imogen Longcake produced a composed finish beyond the returning Adelaide Gay to fire Partick Thistle back on level terms just before the half hour mark.

Having concede, the Hoops quickly went forward looking to put themselves back in front.

Poppy Pritchard was picking up some good areas and working hard to win back possession high up the pitch.

The forward had some success on that front, picking the ball off the Thistle centre-back, before running through one-on-one, but couldn’t find the back of the net, seeing the strike come off the post.

Celtic were piling on the pressure at the end of the half but unfortunately couldn’t find a way to goal as the first 45 minutes came to a close.

The second half featured a similar pattern, with Celtic dominating much of possession, and pushing forward looking for their second of the day.

Just moments into the half, Amy Gallacher had a chance, but the number seven just couldn’t quite get over the ball to get her volleyed effort on target.

The Celts continued to put on the pressure, with Grant Scott also turning to the bench, introducing Tara O’Hanlon, Hannah Luke and Momo Nakao.

Hannah Luke came the closest to finding the back of the net, having an effort from the edge. But the goalkeeper produced a strong save to deny the full back.

Despite putting on that pressure, the Hoops just couldn’t find a way to goal to secure a winner, ultimately taking home a frustrating point.

It is one the Ghirls will look to move on from as their focus now turns to Hampden Park next week, where they take on Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.
