Two games into the league campaign and the signs have certainly been encouraging for Celtic.

The first-half performance against Kilmarnock offered a glimpse of what the team can produce, but Viljami Sinisalo believes there is still plenty more to come as new players settle in and relationships continue to grow.

“We’ve set a standard with the performance against Kilmarnock and it’s about getting to that level and going beyond it,” he told Gerry McCulloch in an interview on CelticPlayer.

The Finnish goalkeeper said: “There’s a lot of talent in the squad and you saw that coming out, especially in the first half when we could have scored four, five or six goals.

“No one wants to stand still. You always want to develop and be better.”

For a goalkeeper, Celtic playing most of their football at the other end of the pitch is no bad thing.

Sinisalo is happy to have a quiet afternoon, provided he is ready when that one important moment arrives.

“As funny as it sounds, if I don’t touch the ball, we must be doing something well,” he said.

“But when that moment comes, you have to be there. You need to make saves, keep clean sheets and be counted on at a crucial point in the game.”

The goalkeeper has also been building an understanding with Kasper Høgh, both through his distribution and in spotting the striker’s movement further up the pitch.

And after Høgh’s hat-trick against Kilmarnock, Sinisalo knows exactly where the ball needs to go.

“Everyone knows that if you put it in the right area, more than likely he’s going to be there,” he said.

“He’s a character everyone enjoys spending time with and he’s very much been himself. Then he goes and scores a 35-minute hat-trick, which helps as well!”

Attention now turns to the League Cup and a trip to Tannadice, a ground which carries both good and bad memories for the Celts.

Last season’s defeats there remains fresh in the mind, while Sinisalo was also part of the squad that celebrated a title-clinching 5-0 victory at the same venue in April, 2025.

“It’s a trophy that got away from us last year and we don’t want to miss out on it again,” he added.

“At this football club, you’re expected to win. We’re going to go there, fight for everything and hopefully get our name in the hat for the next round.”
