As Celtic prepare to kick off the defence of their League Cup crown against Falkirk this Friday night, Celtic TV's latest Full Match Flashback takes you back to an unforgettable final at Hampden Park last December.

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, the Hoops battled through 120 minutes and a dramatic penalty shoot-out to overcome Rangers and lift the first silverware of the season.

It was a contest packed with tension, quality, and unforgettable moments, as Brendan Rodgers’ side came from behind during the game before eventually triumphing 5-4 on spot-kicks.

The first half saw Celtic dominate possession, with Nicolas Kühn and Kyogo both going close, but it was Rangers who struck first when Nedim Bajrami capitalised on a rebound to score just before the break.

Celtic responded in style after the interval. Greg Taylor levelled the tie on 56 minutes with a deflected strike from the edge of the box, before Daizen Maeda produced a moment of magic, lifting the ball over Leon Balogun and finishing superbly to put the Hoops in front.

Mohamed Diomande’s close-range finish brought Rangers back on terms, but Nicolas Kühn’s late goal looked to have sealed the cup for Celtic, only for Danilo to equalise moments later and force extra-time.

With no further goals in the additional 30 minutes, penalties decided the destination of the trophy.

Adam Idah, Callum McGregor, Arne Engels and Reo Hatate all converted for Celtic, before Kasper Schmeichel’s superb save from Ridvan Yilmaz set the stage for Maeda to step forward and seal the win, sparking jubilant celebrations in the green and white end of Hampden.

It was a landmark moment for Brendan Rodgers, securing his 10th trophy as Celtic manager and ensuring the League Cup returned to Paradise.
