Celtic take on Atalanta BC on Wednesday, October 23 and Celtic fans will be there to support the team at this important UEFA Champions League match.

This week, the club was sanctioned by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body due to a small number of individuals lighting fireworks at the recent match against Borussia Dortmund, which resulted in a €20,000 fine, and, if such behavior is repeated, the Club will be prevented from selling tickets to supporters for one away match in UEFA club competitions.

This sanction has been applied by UEFA to a number of clubs this season where there has been lighting of fireworks.

The Club’s position has always been clear - that the use of fireworks and pyrotechnics at matches is prohibited, due to the risks it presents to supporter safety and because of the risk of the Club being punished under the applicable regulations.

As with all away matches in UEFA club competitions, the Club has written to supporters attending this match to remind them of safety matters and the relevant regulations, including the lighting of fireworks or other objects.

Celtic supporters play a crucial role in the success of the team. It is not in the interests of the team, or Celtic supporters, to be denied access to a future UEFA away match.

Due to this current sanction, however, there is a real risk of our supporters being denied access to a match if the use of fireworks and pyrotechnics continues, which would have a detrimental effect on the team.

While we understand that the vast majority of supporters do not engage in this type of behaviour, we ask all supporters again to refrain from the possession and use of fireworks and pyrotechnics at matches.

Celtic supporters are proud of our reputation in European football and we encourage all supporters to maintain and help foster this at all times.
