It was a disappointing night for the Celtic FC Women’s squad, who suffered a late defeat in the semi-finals of the Sky Sports Cup to the hands of rivals Rangers.

Following Chloe Craig’s dramatic late penalty, the game appeared to be heading for extra-time with the scores level at 2-2 as it entered stoppage time.

Despite the disappointing result, Elena Sadiku believes there were positive signs in her side’s performance, praising the players for sticking to the game-plan throughout.

Speaking to Celtic TV, she said: “It’s going to be interesting to see the game again. Obviously we had a game-plan and I felt in the first half we didn’t execute that like we talked about.

“But after some instruction and feedback at half time, we came out as a stronger team.

“When we went 1-0 up I felt like we had momentum, but then they pushed us down and managed to score two goals.

“We maybe went down as a team a little bit, and that is something that we need to learn and improve because if we score one goal, we then need to step up and work even harder.

‘So that is something that I am going to take with me, but I’m very proud with how the girls were loyal to the changes.’

“We tried to turn it around, and made it 2-2 which gave us some momentum that I actually felt like this is going our way, and was really hoping to get one more goal. It’s going to be an interesting one to analyse.”

The Ghirls will look to bounce back from the disappointment of Friday evening, and it is another huge match in which Sadiku will quickly take charge of.
