Today, Thursday, April 11, is World Parkinson’s Day and Celtic FC Foundation is proud to support the campaign this year and help promote awareness of people living with the condition.

It is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, with roughly 13,000 people in Scotland living with Parkinson’s, and more than 30 newly diagnosed each week.

Since the start of 2023, Celtic FC Foundation have teamed up with Parkinson’s UK and Glasgow Life to help deliver free weekly walking football sessions in Glasgow.

Taking place at Glasgow Life’s Toryglen Regional Football Centre, the project is free for people with Parkinson’s, as we aim to appeal to a greater number of people living with the condition, particularly those not currently engaged in physical activity.

And today, on World Parkinson’s Day, we are delighted to be hosting 30 people from the Walking Football project inside Celtic Park for a special celebration lunch.

Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton, said: “We are able to deliver this weekly project thanks to the generosity of one of our supporters.

“Our aim is to grow this and host many more people living with Parkinson’s every week, as we strengthen our partnership with Glasgow Life and Parkinson’s UK.

“There are proven benefits to participating in physical activity such as this and we are delighted that we are part of a bigger team.”
