Although the manager is confident of his side’s abilities going into the game, he knows they must be wary, particularly when it comes to fixtures in cup competitions.

“I always say the same, but it’s true, we think it’s going to be a tough test,” he explained, “especially coming off the back of a fantastic comeback, being 2-0 down against Spartans and they managed to equalise.

“I think it’s a team that is full of confidence right now, and it’s a new competition. In the cup, anything can happen, so they will fancy it. Last year, we had a fixture where we had 27 shots and we only conceded one shot, yet we lost on penalties.

'We know how important it is to be clinical, determined and to make sure we don’t underestimate our opponents.'

“I think they are a good team, they have a clear style and they know what they play at. So we know their threats and we have to be at our best because we need to make sure we get through to the next round, which is what we all want.”

After returning to domestic action, it is set to be another busy week for the Hoops with three games over the coming seven days.

Following their cup match against Hamilton Accies, the Ghirls will welcome Glasgow City to the Excelsior Stadium on Thursday night before facing Motherwell at the same venue a week on Sunday.

Despite the fact Fran Alonso may have to rotate his squad, the message remains the same - the focus will only be on one game at a time, starting with Sunday’s visit to Hamilton.

He said: “It’s been individualised training for most of the players in the squad. Some players have come from playing both games internationally, some didn’t play and some came with knocks.

“So it’s been a week where not everyone has trained yet. Friday is the first time that everybody has been able to train.

'So it’s been about managing players individually so that they are at their best.'

“We will do some rotation again for the same reason to try and minimise the risk in terms of their fatigue, but also to make sure the playing minutes for the rest of the squad is up there, because they are going to be needed.

"We will be playing Sunday, Thursday and then Sunday. So it will be a busy schedule, where most of, if not all the girls will be needed.

“So it’s all about finding this balance between playing quality minutes and also making sure everyone feels important in the squad."
