The 1-0 win at Ibrox, sealed with a first-half Kyogo strike was the final match before the international break. For those players in green and white who then went on to perform for their countries, Donnelly believes it will have acted as a real motivator.

He added: “It would’ve been worse going into the international break having been beaten, because then you’ve got to chew over it and mull over it for a couple of weeks.

“So, there would’ve been a spring in their step. But equally they’ll have been keen to kick on and build from that. I think Celtic will only get stronger now as players start to return from injury.”

One piece of good news on that front is the return to action of talismanic midfielder, Reo Hatate. Brendan Rodgers has praised Hatate’s power and ball-winning capabilities and every Celtic fan knows what he brings to the side.

Donnelly added: “Hatate’s return is a great boost to the squad. It’s huge. He’s been such a big player, such an exciting player to watch since he’s been at the club.

‘The midfield is a strong part of Celtic’s team but with Hatate in it I believe it is even stronger.’

“Whether he’s ready to start or come off the bench, with some new signings potentially coming in too, they’re only going to get stronger as a team.”
