Celtic take to the field against Atletico Madrid tomorrow night (Wednesday), with Greg Taylor now among the most experienced European participants in the Hoops side.

The upcoming UEFA Champions League outing will be his 23rd European match overall since joining from Kilmarnock in 2019/20, and his 11th in the continent’s top tournament – his ninth in the group stages.

This season’s Group E exploits have already seen the full-back face Feyenoord away and Lazio at home, both tight defeats, and he knows facing the La Liga outfit will be comparable to anything he’s faced on the continental stage so far.

Speaking ahead of the game, Taylor said: “We know this is one of the world’s best teams, so it’s an exciting opportunity for us to try and get a positive result.

“The last game was disappointing in terms of the result, because I think in the first two games for large parts we performed well, but it’s about now going to the next step and matching that with results.

‘At Celtic Park it’s such a unique atmosphere, especially on the Champions League nights.’

“So we aim to give what the fans give us, and hopefully a result to match the performance.”

The 2-1 loss to Lazio at home was a hard one to take after the team put so much into the game, but it’s an experience Taylor and his team-mates hope to learn from.

He said: “I think it’s just the small details. We know that you get punished for slight mistakes, and equally we want to try and play our football.

“We want to get on the ball and create as many chances at home, so it will be about those two things.

“When you lose the game late on, it’s always an awful feeling. We knew that night we had performed well enough to definitely take points.

"It’s an entirely different opponent tomorrow night, but it’s the same competition and we want to start getting points on the table.

“We aim to try and put on a strong performance. We want to have European football after Christmas, so that’s the aim and we need to start that tomorrow night.”
