It isn’t often you see five substitutions made in one go, particularly at half-time in a game. However, that was the exact nature of Fran Alonso’s changes during the 6-0 win over Hamilton Accies on Sunday.

After taking a commanding four goal lead in the opening 45 minutes, the Spaniard was able to switch half of his outfield and introduce fresh legs to the game.

Following a difficult first half, the last thing Hamilton Accies would have wanted to see was the introduction of players such as Amy Gallacher and Colette Cavanagh, to name just two, who have been on fine form this campaign.

The changes at the break also allowed Alonso to introduce a new face amongst the squad to the game as Sydney Cummings came on to make her Celtic debut.

After officially signing for the club earlier this week, the defender was introduced to the action as the Celts gear up for another busy few weeks.

Speaking to Celtic TV after making her first appearance in a Celtic shirt, the 24-year-old admitted she was delighted to get back out on the pitch.

Cummings also paid tribute to her team-mates for easing the pressure somewhat on her debut after an excellent first-half performance saw the Hoops race into the lead.

She said: “Yeah, it was great to make my debut for the club! The girls did a great job in the first half, so coming on I felt like the pressure was off a little bit.

“Obviously we wanted to come in and make a statement. So it was nice to be out there and move around.

‘I’ve been here now for about two weeks, so it’s nice to finally get back out on the pitch and play again!’

“Sometimes a game can be a bit more difficult when a team sits in and you are dominating possession because when you make a mistake it’s a bit more glaring.

“But this is a great group of girls. We rally behind each other, and make opportunities count so it was great.”

Although Cummings’ first appearance for the club came during an away trip to New Douglas Park, it certainly wouldn’t have seemed like it to the defender with the number of Hoops fans who came out in support.
