During Fran Alonso’s tenure there have been many an impressive performance, which have left the Spaniard in awe watching on from the sidelines.

However, by his own admission, the Celtic FC Women’s boss believes he might have witnessed one of the best since his arrival in Glasgow following the Hoops’ rampant 13-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon.

Going into the break 6-0 ahead, the Ghirls added to the scoreline a further seven times, with eight different players getting their name on the scoresheet.

Speaking to Celtic TV in the immediate aftermath of the match, Alonso was full of praise for his players following their incredible performance at Airdrie.

The Celtic manager insisted it was a very pleasing day for his coaching staff and the players, and admitted he is hoping they can maintain that momentum as the season goes on.

He said: “It was very impressive. We knew how difficult the opponent could be, and we prepared well all week for the game.

“The girls worked very hard, but I did not expect a performance or a result like that. It was absolutely incredible. We could have even scored more.

“Aberdeen were only able to get one or two shots through the game, which means our concentration levels and the way we press was fantastic.

“So I’m absolutely delighted because it was a very impressive performance. I don’t think I’d be exaggerating if I said it was one of the best, if not the best since I have been here. It’s almost a 10-out-of-10.

'So I’m very proud and happy. The thing we must focus on, is that we haven’t won anything, so we need to make sure we take this and put it into training.'

“If we carry on with this standard, I think we are going to have a very successful season. It was very impressive.”

After taking such a heavy lead into the half-time break, for many teams, it would have been easy to simply take the foot of the gas and see out the three points.

However, that is not the attitude and mentality Alonso has drilled into his Celtic FC Women’s squad.
