For the second Motherwell game in a row, it was all down to the final minutes of the match, only this time, after the opposition’s late equaliser, there was no last-gasp winner from the Hoops.

It was a score that disappointed anyone connected with the club, and the frustration was evident when skipper, Callum McGregor spoke after the 1-1 home draw with the Fir Park side.

He told Celtic TV after the game: “It was disappointing to lose the goal just after we scored. I think we put a lot into the game, obviously missing a penalty as well which doesn’t help, and looking at that point to try and get the comfort in the game.

“I think with the play and little chances that we created in the game were really good, but probably just missing that final quality.

“And then in the small moments we have to be better, the penalty, we’ve got to score and that then gives us comfort in the game.

“But especially when David did score the penalty, then to concede so quickly after from a set-play, we have to defend the box better.

“We have to learn from it. In everything else in terms of the aspect of the game, we put a lot into it and probably just small moments in quality at the end not giving as that comfort in the game, we’ll need to learn from that for sure.”

The finale of the final minutes was set for the traditional last-gasp goal we have come to expect in scenarios like this, but it never came despite non-stop presuure.

The captain said: “We’ve been very good at that, especially in the last couple of years that when we go in front we see games out. You have to expect a bit of pressure at some point but they smash it forward and they get the corner.

“We just have to deal with the corner, so it’s those bits of the game that when the game’s tight we have to be better.

‘It’s unlike us but we have to keep going, there’s still a lot of football to be played, we are still in a good position, so we just need to dust ourselves off.'

“Of course, we’re disappointed as we want to win every home game here, but if you can’t win it you have to learn from it and show that bouncebackability. There are always tough moments in the season.

“It’s about who shows up next and, like I said, we need that bouncebackability to get us on track and there’s a lot of games in this sort of month, so we have to be together and keep fighting and we’ll get those two points back.”
