It has been a long two weeks for Celtic FC Women, who have been without competitive action due to the most recent international break.

However, the Ghirls made the ideal return to action on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Dundee United 2-0 to kick-start the second round of SWPL fixtures.

Imane Addi’s composed first half strike looked to send the Celts on their way, before Tiree Burchill made sure all three points would be coming back to Glasgow with 20 minutes remaining.

Speaking to Celtic TV in the immediate aftermath of the match, admittedly for manager Fran Alonso there were aspects of his side’s performance that could improve.

However, ultimately, the Spaniard was delighted to secure another important three points and a clean sheet, particularly with the disruption in the lead up to Sunday’s win due to players returning from international duty.

He said: “The victory and the clean sheet is very important – we really needed that.

“The performance was so-so. I thought we built very well and we were very clean in the way we played. But in the final third, our decision making wasn’t great.

'Overall, I’m happy with the result. We knew it would be very difficult because Dundee United are very good at defending the box as they showed today.'

“Then we obviously had so many players away with internationals, so we didn’t really have the whole team to prepare.

“So we knew it would be a tough game and it wasn’t going to be easy for us. So we have to be happy with the result. But, at the same time, we know the performance has to be a bit better.

“We had a few chances to score more goals. I think the goalkeeper had an outstanding game. But maybe we just have to be a little more clinical.

“The main thing is the clean sheet and the three points. That takes us to 33 points from 12 games, which is fantastic. So we just need to continue working hard.”

After marking their return to action on Sunday afternoon, the Hoops won’t have to wait much longer for their next fixture.
