It was a frustrating afternoon for the Scottish Champions on their return to Paradise after a month as they had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw against St Mirren.

The Hoops had to twice come from behind, with Kyogo and then Callum McGregor drawing Celtic level after Curtis Main had scored both of St Mirren’s goals.

And the St Mirren forward came close to grabbing a hat-trick in the second-half, including a shot which hit the post when it was 2-1 to the visitors.

Speaking after the game, Ange Postecoglou said: “It was a tough game and credit to St Mirren. They worked hard, as we knew they would, and it was a tough game for us.

“We weren’t at our best in terms of just working hard enough and putting the things in play that allow us to dominate a game, but the boys found something to fight back, so at least we got a share.

“We never really got going and some of that is credit to them, but I just thought we lacked a little bit of urgency and energy, particularly without the ball. We’ve been really good without the ball and we’ve just looked off it a bit in the last couple of weeks.

“When you do that, then it’s hard to take control of the game with the ball as well, so part of the way we set up is that we need to continually put pressure on the opposition and we didn’t do that.”

The Hoops have two more league games to complete – against Hibernian away and then Aberdeen at Celtic Park next Saturday – before the Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caley Thistle at the start of the June.

And while there was disappointment at the 2-2 draw with St Mirren, the result maintained their impressive home league record this season, with 16 wins and two draws from their 18 games at Celtic Park.

Both of the goals against the Paisley side were superb strikes, with Kyogo netting his 31st goal of the campaign, while Callum McGregor produced a stylish finish to draw his side level late in the game.

The Celtic manager added: “Again, they found a will to get a result out of the game which is still important for us.

“They were both good goals but, like I said, we unfortunately didn’t reach the levels we wanted to.”
