It has been quite the week for Celtic FC Women defender Claire O’Riordan who has played her part in front of goal in the Hoops’ last two outings.

The Ireland internationalist was on hand to head home the second of three goals against Glasgow City during Thursday evening’s important 3-1 win at Celtic Park.

And she was amongst the goals once again on Sunday afternoon, scoring what would prove to be the winning goal in the victory over Hibernian.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the central defender was happy to take home another crucial three points after what has been a hectic few weeks for the Ghirls.

She said: “The victory is the most important thing. It was quite a tough game, particularly after the run of matches that we have had, and especially after the game on Thursday night at Celtic Park.

"It’s been a quick turnaround, following on from playing in such a fantastic stadium and being on such a high from the atmosphere, the crowd and the result.

“It was always going to be a tough ask to try and get the energy levels back up to that.

'But to be fair to everyone, as a squad we stuck together. We scored two really good goals in the first half, which set us up nicely for the second half.'

“Conditions got a little tougher as the second half progressed. Ultimately, the most important thing is we came away with the three points.”

Having scored 113 goals in the league this campaign, the Celts have a whole host of attacking threats all over the pitch.

From the forward line to the defence, almost the entire squad have helped contribute in front of goal as the Hoops chase down the SWPL title.

In the last two games it has been the turn of O’Riordan, who added to her tally from earlier in the season with another goal on Sunday.

The defender was happy to have contributed in that fashion, but ultimately it is all about the three points.

“It’s been nice to get my head on the end of a few of those crosses Jacynta puts into the box,” she said. "Caitlin has had the luxury of it all season!”

“But, to be fair to Jacynta she puts some brilliant deliveries into the box, and we just want to get on the end of them.

'So I’m just glad that someone can get on the end of them. For me, it doesn’t really matter who it is, as long as we score.'

“I am just very happy to help out the team and secure three points!”

Celtic now head into the final game of the campaign knowing there is still everything to play for in the race for the SWPL title.

Fran Alonso and his squad finish off what has been a brilliant season with a home fixture against Hearts, and they will be hoping to do enough to secure the title.

It is a game that O’Riordan and her team-mates are looking forward too as they aim to get the job done and hope results can fall their way.

She said: “We are now going into the final game of the season, and everything is still to play for. The most important thing is we managed to get the job done today (Sunday).

“Now, we will get ourselves recovered after a tough couple of weeks and we will be straight back to work on the training ground this week ahead of another important game!”
