Going into the fixtures, the manager was well aware of the difficult task that lay ahead for his squad, but he has been proud of his team's performances.

“We have been fighting all season to achieve our dreams,” he said. “One of our dreams is to try and win our first league title.

“We can only control what we can control. I was extremely proud of the last game against Rangers when Caitlin Hayes scored in the last minute.

'The girls deserve huge credit because the belief they have until the final whistle is fantastic. That is the mentality of this squad.'

“We knew in the split there wasn’t going to be any easy games. When you look at our game against Hearts, I am delighted with the score-line. I give it more credit now than I did at the time.

“Every game is very difficult. There are games where you could be winning and then at the end it can change. If the other teams don’t drop points, then a draw it like a defeat.”

It is bound to be an exciting few weeks for the team as they gear up for the final push for the SWPL title, which includes a match against Glasgow City at Celtic Park on Thursday, 11 May.

Although there is plenty of excitement surrounding the up-and-coming fixtures, Alonso relayed the importance of focusing on one game at a time, starting with Thursday night.

He said: “First of all, we are extremely thankful to everyone at the club who made the game at Celtic Park possible. Before that game though, we play Rangers this Thursday, and then we also play Partick Thistle on Sunday.

'So we are strictly focusing on one game at a time. It is a very exciting game against Rangers, and we must win.'

"It’s also a home game and we need the supporters. So I would urge them to come along and watch, on Thursday night and for the remaining games in the season.

“We would love to see as many fans as possible, because we are playing for our lives, and we are always better with the Celtic support behind us.”
