Speaking in his recent interview with the Celtic View Podcast, he said about signing for the club: "I was playing for Cardiff at that time and we had a friendly against each other, I believe it was in Portugal.

"I had a really good game, there were a few teams interested and then my agent came with Celtic. From then on it went quite quickly.

'I always liked Celtic as a traditional club with the best jersey in the world.'

"So for me, it was decided quite quickly from then on that I wanted to join Celtic. It's a traditional club with some Dutch people before I came to Celtic, so I always followed them as a team. It was something that I wanted to be part of.

“Regi Blinker and all the Feyenoord players that played at Celtic, Pierre van Hooijdonk as well, they were there and they all had good stories to tell me. So when Celtic came, it was an easy choice for me.

“There were big characters at the club and when we played the friendly when I was at Cardiff, Scott Brown and myself were having a go at each other - I tackled him and then he came chasing me all game and was pinching my armpit.

“Then when I signed he was the first one I went to and he told me he was a big softie off the pitch, so everything was alright.”

Looking back on his four years, there were some incredible highs to choose from but one stands out more than most to Loovens, who is now retired and working as an agent in Belgium.

That moment was in 2012, when Celtic sealed the league title with a memorable 6-0 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, with Loovens getting on the scoresheet to help bring the trophy home.

Looking back on that game and his overall time at Celtic, he said: “This is one of the few games that I do remember playing in!

“It felt like a home game, it was 6-0 in the end, we played good football, scored good goals, and it’s the kind of game that was just a relief after all the years of not making it with the league title - it’s one of my proudest moments in football.

'I have to say, I was quite lucky with all my teams with the fans they had, but Celtic, home and away, it was always a sell-out, especially in the Champions League nights – I still get goose bumps.'

“These are the things as a player you always remember and the fans were always there for us in good and bad times - they were just amazing.

“If I look back, it’s just joy that comes back to me. I played for a great club with some great fans and won trophies.

"One of my daughters was born there so it will always be a special place for me. When I come back it will be with joy and with fond memories, so nothing but praise for Celtic from me.”
