Celtic FC Women suffered a 1-0 defeat against Glasgow City on Sunday afternoon in a top-of-the-table clash at the Excelsior Stadium.

It was a closely-contested battle between first and second in the SWPL, and a second-half goal from Priscila Chinchilla was enough for the visitors to secure all three points.

In the early stages, Fran Alonso’s side looked lively, and Natalie Ross was first to try grab the all-important first goal of the game for Celtic. However, the midfielder's header from a set-piece went over the bar.

Moments later, Glasgow City had a great opening of their own from a set-piece, striking the post from a close-range Anna Oscarsson header.

Although the away side had the best opportunity in the opening 15 minutes, it was Celtic who had the better chances of the rest of the first half.

Jacynta came desperately close with an effort from inside the penalty area, which looked destined for the far corner, but it was tipped round the post by Lee Gibson.

After scoring her first two goals for the club on Wednesday evening, Tash Flint was looking to add to her tally, but her effort was comfortably saved by the City keeper.

The Hoops were fashioning some decent openings, and arguably the best chance came for Jacynta once again just before the break. A lovely dinked pass found the feet of the Australian inside the area, but Gibson was out quickly to smoother the opportunity.

Going into the second half, the Celts couldn’t create as many chances, with the visitors doing well defensively.

The warning signs were there for Celtic, after Tajonar was forced into a good save to tip Hayley Lauder’s strike over the bar. And on 65 minutes Glasgow City took the lead, scoring what would ultimately by the winning goal of the game through Priscila Chinchilla.

A defence-splitting pass through the Celtic backline found the City attacker, who produced a clinical finish off the inside of the post.

Celtic continued to push for a way back into the game, but ultimately, they couldn’t fashion up any opportunities to grab an equaliser.
