The Hoops made a quick start to the game, opening up a two-goal advantage within the first 25 minutes.

Natalie Ross was on hand to double Celtic’s advantage. But, the midfielder also scored the Ghirls’ 100^th goal of the competitive campaign.

Celtic took that tally to 105 by the end of play at New Douglas Park and Alonso was quick to praise the attacking intent of his squad, as well as their brilliant performances in defence this season, after conceding just three times in the SWPL.

“We’ve scored more than 100 competitive goals now, but we have also only conceded three goals all season in the league – it’s incredible!

“Huge credit to the girls, they are really incredible. The other day, it was the same in the 3-0 win against Rangers. They defended for their lives to make sure we kept another clean sheet.

“I am very proud of them and we just need to carry on. When you are at Celtic, we are only as good as the last game.

“Every single game we have to put in this type of performance. Tonight (Wednesday), it was the same – we didn’t want to concede and we managed to secure another clean sheet.”

“So I’m delighted! To score over 100 competitive goals and only conceding three, the stats say that we have been fantastic so far this season.”

Next up in the league for Celtic is a huge top-of-the-table clash against Glasgow City at the Excelsior Stadium this Sunday.

The team had the ideal preparations for this weekend, running out emphatic winners over Wednesday’s opponents.

As well as making four changes to his starting 11, Fran Alonso was able to make five quick second-half substitutions to rest those who have played plenty of minutes in recent weeks.

After securing another important three points during midweek, the Celtic manager is now excited for his players to play in another huge occasion, and he is hoping to see a large crowd there to cheer on those in green and white!

He added: “We obviously didn’t think about the Glasgow City game until half time tonight, because we were winning comfortably.

“So we thought it was a good time to rest some legs, for players that have played a lot of minutes in the previous game. We will assess this performance because I think that we can improve from today’s game.

‘But now we’re fully focused and excited for Sunday’s game against Glasgow City, in front of our fans.’

“Even away from home tonight, you can hear them, they are non-stop all night. I think one of the reasons why the team is playing so well is that you can hear the fans – they are getting excited, they are lifting the girls.

“Even when we have spells in the game when we are not at our best, the support makes sure that they lift us and then we can get back to playing at our best.

“So hopefully, there is a big crowd and hopefully we can have another fantastic day because it’s been incredible so far this season.”
