Victory at Hampden Park this evening (Saturday) secured a place in Celtic history for Ange Postecoglou and his squad, as they sealed a Treble with a 3-1 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Not only that but they ensured Celtic set a new world record with eight domestic trebles to their name.

It has been a fantastic season for the Bhoys, and they rounded what has been a busy campaign off by lifting the Scottish Cup thanks to goals from the clinical trio of Kyogo, Liel Abada and Jota.

Speaking after the Hampden triumph, Ange Postecoglou said: “I’m very proud of the whole group. It’s a bit surreal when you think about what we have achieved.

“I’ve said before, coming off the back of last year when we probably had some unexpected success in terms of the double, the challenge this year was to come back bigger and better. I said it on the final day of last season, as we wanted to try and improve.

'It’s easy for me to say that, but the lads have just embraced every challenge along the way. For us to do that, we needed to fill that gap from last year by winning the Scottish Cup.'

“It’s such a great occasion anyway, and this football club has got an unbelievable history of success.

“For this group, they have got their small bit of history in there now, which is theirs forever, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

It has been a long season for the Celts who played their 53rd competitive match of the 2022/23 campaign.

Starting with a win against Aberdeen at Paradise back at the end of July 2002, and finishing off with another trophy in June 2023, it has been an incredible second season for Ange Postecoglou and his players.

The entire squad has given their all throughout the campaign, and the Celtic boss insists the players deserve to savour these special moments after all their hard work.

“We need to enjoy this,” he said. “Everyone has worked awfully hard. It’s been a long season, and some of our boys have been to a World Cup mid-season. The fact is, they are still out there, putting in the amount of monumental effort that they have put into it.

“You also see Kyogo today. He was barely fit but his thoughts were about playing for this football club and doing what he can.

'They all deserve to enjoy this moment. That is what I said to them in the dressing room. They can celebrate this one a little harder than they have the others!'

This victory represents Celtic's 41st Scottish Cup success while, for Ange Postecoglou, it means he joins Jock Stein, Martin O'Neill, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon in winning the domestic treble.

And the Celtic manager admitted he takes immense pride in having his own little bit of history after lifting the trophy the first time.

He said: “When you join this football club, of course it’s a great opportunity but there is also a lot of responsibility there.

'There are certain levels of performance and success that you have to deliver. You take that on board'.

“So to do something that few have done is brilliant. All the success I have had in my career, it’s all special in its own way. But this one I am extremely proud of.”
