“It probably wasn’t the best game but when you get to cup finals it’s about winning, so to cross that line and become Treble winners again in something that this group should be so proud of.

“If you don’t work hard and you don’t sacrifice then you’ve got no chance of being successful. But what this group does is that it has a culture and a behavioural sense where everyone comes in and we work so hard every day, and give ourselves to the cause.

'It’s a selfless group and we’ve managed to build and get better as the weeks have gone on.'

"We’ve got stronger every time we’ve come on the pitch – we look stronger, we look fitter, we look better, we look slicker and when you get to these cup finals it’s about making sure you get over the line.

And today, with the players and the supporters, we managed to get over the line and I’m so proud of every one of them, and now it’s time to go and enjoy ourselves.”

Hampden has long been a happy hunting ground for McGregor who has never lost a cup final at the National Stadium in the green and white Hoops, whether as a youth player or an established first-team star.

And he played his part in ensuring that astounding record continued today (Saturday), providing an assist for Liel Abada’s goal and remaining a beacon of calmness and composure in the middle of the park.

“You’ve just got to enjoy it and soak up every minute of it,” he said.

'This is so special to do this. I know how difficult it is and every season it gets harder.'

“Teams are trying to stop you, teams are trying to come up with ways to put you off your stride and you’ve got to find a new way to win and this group’s done that, so I’m so proud of them, so proud of the supporters and I hope everybody has a brilliant summer.”
