Celtic FC B midfielder, Mackenzie Carse helped complete a late comeback at the Excelsior Stadium this afternoon (Saturday), as the Bhoys drew 2-2 with Cowdenbeath.

Despite making a disappointing start to their third league match of the new season, the young Hoops fought back to seal a point against the Blue Brazil.

Captaining the side from the midfield, Carse had a big part to play in the result in Airdrie, scoring the Celts’ equaliser bang on 90 minutes.

Speaking after the match, the 19-year-old reflected on the end result, praising the side of their response to going two-goals behind early on.

“It was obviously disappointing to go two down so early on in a game.

'But I thought after the opening few minutes we settled down a bit, and started to play some good stuff.'

“We obviously had a lot of chances, and we managed to get there in the end with two in the last five minutes.”

Just moments after Carse’s levelling goal, the Hoops could have gone on to win the match as Daniel Kelly’s effort narrowly sailed over the crossbar.

Despite the frustration of falling behind so early on in the match, Carse was pleased to see the entire squad stick to the game plan and play their football, which paid off in the end.

“It was brilliant from the boys to keep fighting until the very end of the 90 minutes,” he said.

“We were chapping on the door a fair bit all game, Cowdenbeath were just throwing their bodies in front of everything.

'But we scored two great goals, the way we passed it and played it to get into those dangerous areas, which is brilliant.'

Carse continued: “We always want to continue playing the way we do. We wouldn’t have it any other way, with the way Darren (O’Dea) and Stephen (McManus) coach us every day.

“That is what is expected of us, and that is what we need to do no matter what or how the game is going.”

After opening the season with a win, draw and a loss, the Bhoys take a brief break from the Lowland League as they welcome East Kilbride to the Excelsior Stadium.

That is another test that Carse and his team-mates are looking forward to, as they aim to advance to the second round of the SPFL Trust Trophy.

“Wednesday night’s game against East Kilbride will be a good test,” he said. “We played them a few times last year.”

“They have made a fair few signings over the summer, so it will be good to test yourself against some of those players.”
