Celtic head to Dublin to take on Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday in a crucial match for the team’s preparations ahead of the new season, but also an exciting match as the Hoops return to Ireland.

On the back of a successful pre-season tour of Japan, the game with Wolves will test Brendan Rodgers’ side, with the league campaign beginning next Saturday at home to Ross County when the league flag will be unfurled to the Paradise crowd.

Celtic, of course, has Ireland at its core, starting from the club’s foundations in 1887 following an initiative driven by Irish Marist, Brother Walfrid, in order to feed the poor and hungry in Glasgow’s East End.

Ireland has continued to have a strong presence in Celtic ever since and there’s a huge support base over the Irish Sea, which makes it an exciting tie at the Aviva Stadium.

It’s the first time in five years that Celtic have been in the capital city, and here we look back on some of the previous games in Dublin over the last 12 years.
