The Celtic FC B team travel back across the border today, bringing with them all three points from last night’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s in the Premier League International Cup.

It was a comfortable 4-2 victory for the young side at Aggborough Stadium, which was their second of four group-stage fixtures in the competition.

Rocco Vata was quick off the mark, scoring his first of the evening after just three minutes and setting the tone for the evening. His opportunity for the brace came shortly after as he calmly scored from the spot with just 10 minutes played.

Tsoanelo Letsosa then extended the Celts’ lead after 26 minutes with a headed effort in the aftermath of a corner kick. With the Hoops 3-0 ahead, the home side were hungry to get one back before half-time.

Owen Farmer opened the scoring for Wolves, as he won the ball back at the edge of the box and sent it past Josh Clarke on the 40^th minute.

Just before the break, the home side had another chance to close the gap with a penalty. Oliver Tipton’s effort failed to test Clarke, who saved the strike and the Hoops headed in at the break with a 3-1 lead.

Into the second half, it was Scott Robertson who got the fourth for Celtic on the 65^th minute mark. Letsosa used his skill and unselfishly squared the ball to Robertson who was well placed to tap it home.

Wolves scored their second of the evening shortly after, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Celts and the game finished in a 4-2 victory for the Hoops.

Speaking after the match, B Team coach Darren O’Dea said: “I was delighted with the game as a whole.

“We’ve talked enough this season about starting games quickly and we’ve obviously had good performances where we’ve finished games strongly but last night, we had the whole package.

“We started exceptionally well and Rocco Vata was in incredible form along with the whole team.

“We found a couple of goals within the first 20-25 minutes but if we were three or four up, no one could’ve begrudged the team that.

“It was a wonderful start to the game and we kept that up for the full 90 minutes.”

He added: “The only areas that we’ll look at is a couple of tiny lapses of concentration that allowed their goals to come in, but even off the back of them scoring, we went straight back on to the front foot.

“For the full 90 minutes we were in complete control of the game and the energy and quality of the players was exceptional.

“It would be hard to single out players because every one of them, including the subs that came on, had a real impact on the game and that’s what we’re after, strong individual performances.”
