It was disappointment at the Excelsior Stadium as Celtic FC B Team suffered a 4-2 defeat to Gala Fairydean Rovers yesterday afternoon (January 14).

It was the visitors who opened the scoring after 23 minutes with a goal from Quinn Mitchell, and just moments later Allan Smith doubled their lead on the 29^th minute.

With 41 minutes played, Mackenzie Carse got one back for the Hoops, before Adam Brooks netted an equaliser that was ruled offside.

On the 45^th minute, Gala Fairydean extended their lead with a goal from Lewis Hall and the Celts went in at the break trailing 3-1.

Lewis Hall scored his second of the day after 55 minutes, before Joey Dawson stepped up to the spot and secured his seventh goal in four games for the young side.

There was no further scoring in the fixture which brought a disappointing end to Celtic FC B Team’s four-game winning streak.

MATCH REACTION

Speaking after the match, B Team coach Stephen McManus said: “We started poorly, they went man for man to stop us playing out and we didn’t stick to how we like to play or find the solutions.

“In the second half the boys were a lot better, playing with more enthusiasm and energy but by that time, it was too late. When you start the game poorly it’s difficult to get back into it.

“With another game on Tuesday, the positive thing is that we can’t dwell on a disappointing performance or result.

“The boys have been terrific this year and with young players you get inconsistencies, that’s part of their development.

“Our focus turns to the next game and we’re looking forward to the test on Tuesday.”
