“What’s important is that you continue to perform and continue to win games of football and if you do that you don’t have to worry about what anyone else is doing because it’s out of your control anyway.

'The only control that we have is how we perform in our games.'

“There are 18 games to go, rough maths that’s 54 points and our target is 54 points and if we get that we don’t need to worry about anything else.”

The manager confirmed that Greg Taylor is likely to miss a few weeks through a hamstring injury that he suffered at Ibrox.

Josip Juranovic replaced Taylor in the first-half and the manager has been full of the praise for the bronze medal winner at the World Cup, and he had positive words to say on Alexandro Bernabei who he said is likely to receive more minutes in Taylor’s absence.

“Josip didn’t have the best game last week, he wasn’t the only one, particularly during the middle part of the game we weren’t at our best,” said the manager.

“He’s been an outstanding contributor for us for 18 months and he’s done an unbelievable job cumulating in an unbelievable World Cup for himself.

“He’s a highly rated member of this team who works and trains hard every day, so I have no issues with Josip, he’s still very important.

"I’m really happy with him (Alexandro Bernabei), he’s a really exciting player for us and we knew that when we brought him in.

“He’s probably played more than I thought, but in terms of his progress he’s probably played less than he deserves because Greg Taylor has been outstanding but he gets an opportunity now.

'I have high hopes for him and it’s difficult when you come to a new club and you’re not getting a decent amount of games but he’s handled it all really well with real maturity.'

“I see him working every day and he’s improving all the time and with Greg out he gets an opportunity and I’m sure he will do well.”
