He said: “People probably look at me for leadership but the good thing about this group is that we have a lot of leaders.

“We work hard every single day and we don’t come away from that - we have a set way of working and we give our maximum.

“For us as players, we have to set that standard every day in terms of the message of how we approach every game, so going into Sunday and a game of consequence the most important thing is how we prepare this week.

'When we step over that line we’re all together with all those leadership qualities to make us successful and that’s what we have to bring to the game.'

“I think the group are relatively experienced in that (Glasgow derby) now. There are a couple that have joined us recently, but by living in Glasgow you get a sense of what that’s about.

“It’s about staying calm and trusting ourselves, the manager and what we’re doing. If we put everything together hopefully we can have a successful afternoon.”

Sunday will be the third time the sides meet this season, with Celtic winning 4-0 at Celtic Park in September, before drawing 2-2 at Ibrox in the New Year fixture.

Fuelled with the knowledge of those past meetings, and with the desire to rewrite last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final defeat, McGregor is full of belief the team will have the correct approach and mindset.

He added: "When you lose a big game it hurts you but it’s important when you get the chance to try and rectify that then you give everything to put that right, and more importantly, to put it right for the supporters.

'We have that added motivation that they got one over us the last time at Hampden and we will try to fix that.'

"We can only do that by staying calm and focused on what we’ve been doing and approaching the game in the right way.

“There will always be moments that go against you. In the last game, we went down 2-1 but we managed to find a way back into the game, so it’s sticking to your principles and what gets you success.

"When the game comes about we know what knockout football is all about. We have to be right on the day to win it and it’s what we’re looking to do.

“We wait to see what they will do out of possession but we will look at the game and where we can hurt them, as well as what we need to do to stop them.

“It’s the same preparation for every game, we do it with every team and come game time we need to find the solutions on the pitch in the 90 minutes or longer if need be.”
