Celtic FC Women rounded off their final home game of 2023 at the Excelsior Stadium in style on Sunday afternoon, running out 7-0 winners over Spartans.

After returning from the international break, the Celts were quickly back in action against the Edinburgh side this weekend.

Despite being level at half-time, the goals finally came for Fran Alonso’s side in the second half, who ran out comfortable winners in Airdrie.

Speaking in the aftermath of his team’s victory, the Spaniard admitted he was pleased at the performance in the end after scoring seven goals in the second half for the second game in a row.

He said: “I thought it was a poor first half. We created so many clear-cut chances, but we weren’t clinical at all.

“But for me, the performance wasn’t good. We weren’t as intense, we hurried our decisions a little bit.

“I know the weather didn’t help, but I didn’t think we were as good as we could be. Nowhere near the level that we can play.

“We addressed that at half time and make two substitutions that I think changed the game, alongside a couple of tactical changes.

‘I think that helped us to play our football. We were so composed, and very good at playing out.’

“Some of the goals we scored were absolutely outstanding. That is the second home game in a row where we have scored seven goals in the second half.

“That is incredible. Overall, it was a bad first half, but an outstanding second half! So I’m very happy with that.”

After playing out their final game at the Excelsior Stadium this calendar year, it was a fitting way for the Hoops to round off what has been another strong year at home.
