The Ghirls then added a further three goals in the second 45 minutes, with strikes coming from Shen Mengyu, Tiree Burchill and Celya Barclais.

Seeing so many names get on the scoresheet for the Hoops was a trend that the Celtic manager was pleased to see continue, with plenty of his squad vying for positions in the starting line-up.

“It was like that last year, the goals come from all over the pitch,” he said. “It is important that our two players that have started as the two strikers have both started the season in great scoring form.

‘That is great for their confidence and that is good for the team as a whole.’

“But I know if they are not playing and somebody else takes that spot, then we're confident they will score as well because they are doing it in training.

“So it’s very important that we don’t rely on just one player. We have a very strong squad, the girls are fighting for positions and they know whoever doesn’t play, the team is going to carry on playing at a good level.

“That tells them that they need to keep pushing if they want to play.”

Following on from the weekend’s victory, the Ghirls are quickly back in action this midweek as they travel through to the capital.

The Spartans have shown in the past they can be tough opponents, and Fran Alonso expects the home side to put up a good fight as Celtic aim to continue their perfect start to the new campaign.

The Spaniard is hoping that his squad can maintain the high levels they have produced so far as they head on the road for the second time in the league.

He said: “Playing Spartans is always a tough test. We are going to an away pitch, normally we find a lot of wind there because of the way the pitch is and where it is.

“So sometimes it can be difficult with the weather conditions. So far we have had great experience playing there, but they are always a tough team, and an aggressive team who will fight for every ball. So they always make it difficult for us.

‘I hope that we can play at the level we are playing, and we manage to impose our game.’

“Obviously we will go there with the ambition of getting the three points and to put in another good performance.

“That is what we are working towards and hopefully that happens.”
