“We assess each game in the same way whether we win or lose and you try and learn from every game of football we play.

“Just because we were winning games doesn’t mean we were missing the fact we still have areas to improve in.

“The last game was disappointing, not just the result but also the performance, and we’ve analysed it as we would any other game and gave feedback to the players, and we’re preparing for the game tomorrow now.

“We’ve prepared for these 13 games between now and the break. We’ve been planning for that for a while and the process for us is just seeing after every game how people are travelling from a physical and mental standpoint and making decisions from there.

“Every decision we make will be about whatever team we feel will be able to best perform, so if that means making a number of changes we will.

“We understand why we didn’t perform well on the day against St Mirren and we give feedback to the players and move on, because nothing that comes out of one result changes my approach and what we want to achieve as a team.

'How we progress as a football team is not according just to results because if you do then you end up jumping at shadows because results sometimes mask true progress.'

“Whilst we’ve been a very good team, particularly over the last 12 months in terms of progress, we’re under no illusions we’re nowhere near the team we want to be.

“Along the way, we still have areas to improve in, but this group of players has made enormous jumps in their own development over the past period.

“That’s the encouraging thing for us that irrespective of the outcome of a game they are coming back in here and wanting to be better.”

The international break gave the manager the opportunity to head back home to Australia to preview the upcoming Sydney Super Cup that the Celts are taking part in during November.

It was the first time Ange Postecoglou returned to the country since he became manager of Celtic, and he joked about the trip, saying: “It was great, but just to clear up any misunderstanding, it wasn’t a holiday!

'It was great to be there and there’s a genuine excitement and enthusiasm with my own connection and with the football club in general.'

“There’s great enthusiasm and it works out to be a great time of the year. In a country like Australia where there are multiple sports, people’s attention can be divided.

“When we’re going there, most of the other major winter sports have finished, the World Cup is on the doorstep, so the attention will be on football and with us being there then it will be a good time.

“I have a fair understanding that people are following the journey and they are taking great pride in the progress the club is making and they feel an attachment because of that.”
