As the young Hoops head into their final home fixture of the group stage, coaches Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea are confident in their team and their style of play.

The young Celtic side have another important test ahead of them tomorrow as they welcome Shakhtar Donetsk to the Excelsior Stadium in the UEFA Youth League.

The players have demonstrated promising performances throughout the campaign, taking all three points in Leipzig but are yet to seal a victory in Airdrie.

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow’s test, McManus said: “The way we play won’t change despite who the opposition is going to be.

“Throughout this campaign we’ve tried to impose a certain style of play that suits the players we’ve got, and we will be trying to implement that on the game tomorrow against Shakhtar Donetsk.”

With games coming thick and fast for the Celtic youth side this season, McManus praised the team’s performance across all competitions and ability to cope with the demand.

“Our boys have been terrific this year. Young players are going to be inconsistent at times but they’ve reached levels that Darren and I knew they were capable of, now it’s just about them believing they can reach these levels.

“The players are learning every single game as they face different styles of football. We’re trying to give them a more rounded experience on what they can expect when they start to challenge for the first team.

“That’s the benefit of being in these competitions and why we accepted all the invitations we could to play in these tournaments.”
