After netting two first-half free-kicks to set the Celts on their way to a 7-0 win over Glasgow Women, Lucy Ashworth-Clifford hailed the Celts’ threat from set pieces, after scoring their first four goals of the match from training ground routines.

As one of the preferred set-piece takers, the wingback delivered two lovely goals from free kicks and touched on Celtic’s growing stature from dead balls as they begin to capitalise on the opportunities and seeing hard work pay off.

She told Celtic TV: “At the end of Saturday training we always spend 15 to 20 minutes on set pieces and it’s clearly going a long way.

“We’re getting quite a few goals from them and I still think we’ve got a lot more to do from it.

“Caitlin can get on stuff as can Taylor. We’ve got some great players in the box so the more we do it, the better we’ll be.”

Celtic went into the break just 2-0 up despite having the lion’s share of the ball and ensuring the visitors were firmly camped in their own box.

But after a bit of problem-solving at half time to get around the stacked defence, the Hoops ran riot and extended their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Ashworth-Clifford added: “It was a good game in the second half. The first half was tough, they had lot in the box and so did we because we wanted to go out and capitalise on it so it was tough to break them down.

“But that’s why I got the two free kicks, because we’ve brought them out and then challenged them and they’ve brought our players down.

‘The second half was a lot better and quicker and I think Fran was happy with that.’

“We started going out wide where we thought the space would be so we found the gaps and slipped people through and we had success from it in the first minute of the second half.”

And after kicking off the three-game week with a win, the 23-year-old said the whole squad will have a part to play this week as attentions quickly turn to Dundee United away on Wednesday night.

“It’s a good week for the young girls who got their debut - hopefully they can be more confident and push on when they come on in the next game.

“Everyone had a big part to play today and the girls who did miss out have a big part in the next two games.” she added.
