Celtic FC Women are on the verge of creating history as they head into to their second cup final of the season. The Ghirls will face Glasgow City in the Scottish Women’s Cup final on Sunday, May 29.

It has been a successful season so far for Fran Alonso’s team, with the Hoops already having defeated Glasgow City 1-0 to bring home the SWPL Cup in December, the side’s first piece of silverware since becoming a professional team in 2018 and their first trophy win since 2010.

The final will kick-off at 4.10pm at Tynecastle Park, and promises to be full of action as the Celts take on the reigning Scottish Cup holders.

It has been an impressive cup run for the Ghirls so far. It all started with a 12-0 win over Edinburgh City in January, which allowed them to build the momentum that saw them knock their city rivals, Rangers, out of the competition in a 2-1 victory.

Progressing on to the quarter finals, Celtic FC Women travelled to face Aberdeen and came away with a comfortable 2-0 victory, thanks to a powerful strike from Shen Mengyu and a Jodie Bartle header.

The semi-finals took place earlier this month in a tense match against Hearts, and with the game goal-less until the second half of extra time, the side’s top goal scorer Charlie Wellings' quick-fire double cemented the Ghirls’ place in the final.

With the league finished, all focus now turns to the final and Fran Alonso’s side is determined to bring the cup home to Paradise.
