Fran Alonso praised the mentality of his players after they kicked off a busy final week of the league campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory at Spartans.

While Charlie Wellings continued her emphatic run to put the Hoops two to the good, it was Clarissa Larisey who was the first responder to restore their two-goal lead just two minutes after Spartans pulled one back

And while ever so slightly ruing the lost clean sheet, the manager was delighted with his side’s outing as momentum continues to grow.

He said after the match: “I’m very happy with the performance today, I thought we were very good.

“Again, we’ve been playing very well and we are so good at creating chances, but maybe the final pass or decision is wrong.

'We could’ve scored a few more goals but I’m delighted with the 3-1 win.'

“It was a shame we couldn’t keep the clean sheet, but it’s our seventh win in a row and the most important thing is to keep that momentum.”

While the Hoops were caught cold with the ball out wide for Spartans’ goal, the Spaniard remained confident in his side’s ability to keep a foothold on the game citing their great mentality as instrumental in giving them no time to bring it back to level terms.

He added: “We didn’t get nervous and totally controlled the game. We felt we imposed our football so we didn’t panic - as I said, we wanted to keep the clean sheet, but the reaction and mentality was fantastic.

“Players from the bench made a good impact as well so overall it was a very good game.”
