There was a team full of stars in Celtic’s last game before the international break as the Hoops took a potentially tricky visit from Ross County head-on and came out the other end with a 4-0 win, with Giorgos Giakoumakis and Diazen Maeda taking the goal-scoring plaudits.

The Greek striker smashed in his second hat-trick of the season while his team-mate put in a crowd-pleasing and invigorating shift and a half, pressing as avidly in the 90^th minute as he did in the first.

The goal-getters are just two of the many players, new faces and longer-term Celts alike, who have slotted seamlessly into Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic jigsaw, and the work in progress has created a puzzle for a lengthening list of opposition teams home and away.

Speaking exclusively to Celtic TV about the contribution of Giakoumakis, the manager said: “He’s doing well, but again he’s doing that off the back of some good team performances and he understands that he gets the rewards, and he puts in the hard work as well.

“But I guess the pleasing thing for me is that we’ve had a good share among the goal-scorers and people need to make an impact at different times.

“Earlier in the year it was Kyogo and Dave Turnbull, and Liel Abada’s scored a lot of goals, Jota, Giakoumakis at present and Tommy Rogic has chipped in.

‘That’s been really important for us, and I think the key to our consistency is that we haven’t relied on one player or one or two players.’

“It’s great for Giakoumkis and Daizen who has been scoring lately to get amongst it as well.”

Giakoumakis' hat-trick against County took him to 12 goals in 22 games, and, amazingly, all of the dozen seem to be deadly one-touch finishes.

The manager added: “It’s not unique, it’s the way we play and I think you’ll find most of strikers, they are the kind of goals they score. That’s the way we play our football so you look for players who have those attributes.

“I think what’s more important than how he is finishing is how he is getting into the areas we’re needing. That’s the reason he can finish with one-touches, because he’s hitting the areas we need him to hit when we’re delivering balls in there, and we work on that a lot as a team.”

And Giakoumakis has reaped the rewards of his deft eye for goal with a call-up to the Greek squad for their jaunts to Romania and Montenegro.

Ange Postecoglou said: “It’s great for him, but for all our players, that’s the sort of individual recognition you’ll get and it’s a great honour for them.

“But again it’s on the back of hard work daily for them to contribute to this football club. And, as I keep telling them, whatever individual goals they have will come to fruition if they invest and put hard work into this football club.”
