He said: “When I was young you were looking at a club that had the prestige of reaching finals of European football and you realised how special a club it is.

“I was young at the time, but I remember the travelling fans going to Seville. There was like 100,000 people taking over a city which shows the special bond the club has with the supporters.

“Special memories are the Manchester United game in 2006 and the Shakhtar Donetsk game in 2007.

'I was at both as a ballboy at those games and I remember Nakamura’s free-kick vividly and the whole place just erupted.'

"I remember just looking for the next ballboy and running and jumping on each other. I was watching as a fan and a footballer and thinking that I want to be the one there scoring that goal and seeing everyone go crazy.

“Those are the memories that ignite something inside you and make you want to be a footballer at this club.

“That’s what makes this club special and we’re always cautious of that as players as these people spend their hard-earned money to come and watch us play.

“We have that responsibility to make sure we’re at that standard and we don’t drop below that.”
