After playing out a 2-2 draw away from home against Spartans in the Lowland League, there could have been a sense of disappointment in the Celtic B coaching camp that the team couldn’t keep hold of the lead on two occasions, as they searched for their first away win of the season.

However, looking solely at the result and the late equaliser from the home team would be a very narrow-minded approach to the full 90 minutes performance, where the Celts impressed throughout the match at Ainslie Park.

Spartans responded to a first-half goal from Bosun Lawal, before Johnny Kenny looked to have given the Celts the three points after scoring with 14 minutes left.

However, the home team would equalise again with eight minutes left, but despite this, coach Darren O’Dea was thoroughly pleased with what he saw.

Speaking straight after the match he said: “I’m disappointed for the players as the performance levels were a lot higher than Tuesday night.

“We asked for a reaction and we got it, so I’m disappointed in a result point of view for the players as I thought they deserved the game.

'From a performance point of view the things we asked from them they did really well and on another game, we would have won the game comfortably.'

“We’re all competitive, we want to win but the bigger picture is that we look for performance.

“If we came here and played poorly and won then that wouldn’t have meant anything for me. I’ll look back and see a lot of positives to take forward and we have improved from the last two games.

“We beat Cowdenbeath in the first game and I thought we could have been better and as an overall performance, I thought we were much better today than then.

“Naturally we all want to win but there’s a bigger picture to it and a lot of positives to take and if we perform at that level we will win a lot more games.”
