Ahead of their first home game of 2022, Celtic FC Women’s manager Fran Alonso has highlighted his side’s mental strength as they target more goals and a third consecutive clean sheet this weekend when they take on Hamilton Accies.

The Hoops have bounced back from a disappointing draw against Hibernian to score 19 goals without response in their next two games, and they’re aiming to keep the good run going on Sunday.

“The good thing about this team is every time we make a mistake or fall, we always come back stronger because mentally we are very strong,” Fran Alonso said. “

'We go game-by-game trying to get the three points in every game, and top of that try to play at our best.'

“Regardless of our opponent we have been outstanding, the fluidity, combination and tempo, so we seem to always need to play a couple of games after a break to get to our peak, but now I am delighted.

“The girls are flying in training and I can’t wait for games to come.”

And while the goals have been spread out across the squad, the manager also praised top goalscorer, Charlie Wellings, who has already netted 23 goals in 21 games this season.

“The good thing about Charlie is she works very, very hard and is a humble player who could have more goals but she has many assists instead,” the manager said.

“For her, it’s more important how many titles she can win, if we can qualify for Champions League, if we can win another title this year – that’s more important for her how many goals she can score.

“It is important for a striker how many goals she can score, but we are delighted with her and the whole team. Only she knows how many she can score.”
