The Celtic B team returned to winning ways at the weekend with an impressive 6-0 victory over Edinburgh University.

It came courtesy of an Adam Brooks hat-trick, along with goals from Joey Dawson, Ben Summers and Owen Moffat.

And the win sets the young Hoops up for their clash with league leaders, Bonnyrigg Rose, this Saturday.

Speaking after the weekend victory, manager Tommy McIntyre said: “I was really pleased. It was a difficult pitch to play on for both teams but nonetheless, I thought we handled it well, we had some great goals and I was delighted.

'We highlighted the importance of starting the game well and making sure we got our noses in front, and we did that with a goal after just three minutes.'

That settled us down a little bit, and then we started to take the game towards them, and then we got the second and third goal, and we were pretty much there.

“But, again, you’ve still got to manage the game and I thought they did that really well.”

It was Adam Brooks who got that opening goal for the Hoops, and he was lively throughout the match, grabbing his hat-trick and combining well up front with Joey Dawson, who netted Celtic’s sixth goal of the game.

“I’m always delighted that we create a lot of chances,” said Tommy McIntyre. “At times, we haven’t been taking those chances but I thought we did on Saturday.

“Yes, we could have got a couple more, but we could also have lost a couple, and the defenders did well. Strikers live on goals and to get a hat-trick is always great. It breeds confidence in them.

“I thought the subs that came on also added to it as well, which was really good. Owen Moffat got a little knock earlier in the week so we managed to get him off, and I thought Bruno Davidson did really well when he came on.

“And in the middle of the park, we got young Tsoanelo Letsosa back, who needed game-time as well, so that was good to see. Then at the end, Benny Jackson, who’s been with the 18s, came off in the last 10 minutes and we brought on young Caleb Goldie, so that was good for him.”

Celtic are currently sitting third in the Scottish Lowland League, 10 points behind league leaders, Bonnyrigg Rose, and the Hoops will welcome Bonnyrigg to the Penny Cars Stadium this Saturday.

The sides met back in July last year on the opening day of the season, when Celtic lost 2-1, and there is a determination within the squad to get a positive result this time around.

“It will be a tough game,” said McIntyre. “They’re top of the league and we’ve had them watched a few times, and they deserve to be top of the league. I think they’ve only lost two games this year.

It’s one that we’re looking forward to because we know they were the team that beat us in the first game of the season. We’ve come a long way since then so we’ll get ourselves ready for this game.”
