The Celtic B team head to the Borders this weekend off the back of a good performance and 4-0 win over Vale of Leithen last weekend, and the Hoops are ready for a tough match against Gala Fairydean Rovers.

Manager Tommy McIntyre said the squad have been training really well and that’s reflecting in the games.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game, he said: "You can see the energy levels in the games and the urgency in the manner in which we play. We have a really high intensity which is good."

The last time Celtic played Gala Fairydean, back in September, they beat the Galashiels’ side 2-0. And McIntyre admitted he was impressed with Gala in that contest.

“I remember commenting on how well they played," he said. "It’ll be a tough game. We’ll have one or two changes and a couple of younger ones will play, which gives them an opportunity to stake a claim and get their jersey.

'It’s a good thing that we’re back and playing games and that’s the main thing – it keeps the players nice and fresh as well.'

With 16 goals scored in the last five fixtures, five different goalscorers and the best goals against record in the league, the Celtic B team manager said it is a testament to how well the young team are playing together.

“It’s good when you can spread the goals around your team because you’re then not relying on any individual, albeit strikers live off goals.” he said, “Our strikers, our attacking players are scoring goals, our midfielders are scoring. We had Ben Summers get a hat-trick on Sunday. And you’ve got defenders who have chipped in as well.

“For us, our team can change so quickly in terms of personnel so it’s important that we just focus on that game and hopefully we can get into a rhythm.

“We like to train the way we play with that high intensity so you can see that. And I hope you can see that in games because that’s what we’re intending to do.”

Celtic FC B take on Gala Fairydean at Netherdale Saturday, February 19 (KO: 3pm).
