Celtic Women produced a performance full of courage and character to beat Rangers 2-1 and book their place in the quarter-final of the Scottish Women's Cup.

The goals came in either half from Clarissa Larisey and Chloe Craig, and delivered a second derby cup win this season for Fran Alonso's side, who also defeated Rangers on their way to lifting the League Cup back in December.

Clarissa Larisey grabbed the opener against Rangers before Demi Vance pegged the hosts back before the break, but Chloe Craig capitalised on a high Liv Chance ball into the box to send the Celts into raptures and into the hat for the next round.

In the absence of top goalscorer, Charlie Wellings, it was the Canadian attacker, Larisey who led the line for the Hoops, and her pace and tenacity caused the Rangers backline problems all afternoon.

After just 17 minutes she did well to break from a Rangers corner and surge forward before releasing for Tegan Bowie, but the defence-splitting pass was just too far out of Bowie’s reach.

But with 26 minutes on the clock, she grabbed the opener for the Hoops. Bowie did well to win the ball in the air twice before Sarah Harkes collected it inside the centre circle and launched a long ball for Larisey.

Her presence led to a moment of indecisiveness between goalkeeper Jenna Fife and defender, Brianna Westrup, with the Celtic player managing to get a touch of the ball which took it beyond the Rangers players and into the net.

Rangers looked to have equalised on the half-hour mark but a heroic block on the line from captain Chloe Craig denied Brogan Hay. The visitors continued to press forward in search of a way back into the game, and that duly arrived late in the first half when defender, Demi Vance, headed home at the back post.
