The young Hoops fell to defeat against Berwick Rangers in the Scottish Lowland League despite a promising start to the match in the Excelsior Stadium.

Tsoanelo Letsosa got the Celts ahead on 9 minutes with a lovely finish past Calum Antel in goal for Berwick Rangers.

However, Berwick Rangers equalised on 23 minutes with a nicely timed finish from Liam Buchanan to send the sides in level at half-time.

After a good first-half, the young Hoops failed to build on that momentum in the second-half. Berwick Rangers would get ahead on 52 minutes through substitute Lewis Allan before extending their lead in 71 minutes through Graham Taylor.

The young Celts threatened early doors at the Excelsior Stadium looking to warm up the fans braving the cold. It was fantastic, nice link up play between the captain Mathew Anderson and Ben Quinn looking to expose the Berwick Rangers full-back. Quinn put in a fantastic cross into the box but there were no takers to get Celtic ahead.

It was on the other side this time as Celtic looked to press ahead on four minutes. Davidson this time attacking the Berwick Rangers left-back, crossed low and hard into the danger area but Tsoanelo Letsosa’s shot was deflected wide for the corner.

Five minutes later however, Letsosa would get the young Celts ahead at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie. Davidson once again was causing the opposition left-back all sorts of problems looking to find Joey Dawson in the middle with a low cross. The cross was blocked and gave the oncoming Tsoanelo Letsosa the time to pick his spot and he passed the ball into the net to give Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea’s young side the lead.

Berwick Rangers would however get themselves back on level terms on 23 minutes against the run of play. Cameron Graham evaded Josh Dede on the right-hand side getting a cross to the back post to allow the journeyman Liam Buchanan to slot the ball past Tobi Oluwayemi to the Celts’ frustrations.

The young Hoops looked to get back ahead instantly. Once again linking up well was Mathew Anderson and Ben Quinn from the corner-kick. Quinn after some dazzling footwork gets his right-footed shot off and it ping-pongs in the box as Otoo looked to get on the end of it. Unfortunately for him the shot was cleared off the Berwick Rangers line by Michael Travis.

The last chance of the half would fall to the feet of the visitors. Goalscorer Liam Buchanan was once again causing the young Hoops all kinds of bother as he threw in a dangers ball into the Celtic box however the away team couldn’t get on the end of it as the sides went in level at half-time.

The Celts came out in the second-half looking to build on a good first-half and they nearly were ahead. Lovely play down the right-hand side gave Corey Thomson the space to get a shot off that was just inches wide of the Berwick Rangers goal.

On 52 minutes, Berwick Rangers took the lead as there was a mix up in defence that allowed Lewis Barr to get through on goal and outmuscle Mitchell Robertson to slot the ball past Oluwayemi.

Berwick Rangers then extended their lead on 71 minutes as substitute Lewis Allan played a dangerous ball into the Celtic box as Graham Taylor pounced on the pass to knock the ball past the Celtic goalkeeper.

Celtic pushed to create an opening but were unable to break down the Berwick Rangers defence as the visitors took all three points.
