Nine changes in total from the 9-0 win over Dundee United on Sunday, but once again a similar performance from this Celtic team.

It's a sign of the strength in depth in Ange Postecoglou's squad that he can change so many players and still go to Ross County and head home with a comfortable 4-1 win to book their place in the quarter-final of the Premier Sports Cup.

Heading back down the road with a trip to Motherwell to look forward to in the last eight in October pleased the manager and he takes comfort from the squad's ability to perform at such a high level after so many changes.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, he said: "I'm really pleased, I made nine changes but credit to the players that came in with some of them making their first starts and I thought our performance was really strong.

'It’s always a difficult place to come but that’s as comfortable as we’ve been here which is a credit to the players.'

"I keep talking about our training levels because the whole squad works hard, it’s not just about 11 players and that’s reflected tonight.

"It’s been an unusual start because we’ve had a game a week but that’s over now and we have a lot of games coming at a great frequency and we need all the boys.

"Today gives me the comfort that anyone I need to throw in is ready to go and to perform at a good level."

One of the highlights of the 4-1 win was James Forrest's 90th-minute strike which means the one-club man has netted a goal in 14 consecutive seasons as a Celtic player.

It was an important result as it ensures the Celts continue their pursuit of retaining the title they won last season, but now it's all about recovery ahead of a huge Glasgow derby at Celtic Park on Saturday.

The manager added: "Every game and competition we need to win and strive for. It’s good to be in the next round as it was potentially difficult here and we got through it with a strong performance which was a strong performance.

"James is brilliant and he keeps working hard in training. It’s hard for these guys who aren’t getting as many opportunities but the opportunities will come and when they do it’s important they take it and all of the guys showed that they are in a good condition and ready to go.

"We will prepare for the next game now and see how the boys recover and how the ones that didn’t play are and we will have a team ready to go."
