Celtic secured their place in the semi-final of the Scottish Women’s Cup after a comfortable 2-0 victory in Aberdeen, thanks to an inspiring strike from Shen Mengyu and a Jodie Bartle header.

The opening half-hour was full of long-range attempts and Celtic corners, but the Hoops were unable to find the target or test Aberdeen’s goalkeeper, but just before the break they finally got the reward for their dominance.

Clarissa Larisey flicked the ball on to Shen Mengyu who fired a sweet effort across the goal and into the net to make it 1-0.

In the second-half, Fran Alonso's side continued to push forward in search of a second goal, with Jacynta making space in the box for a chance, but the keeper made a comfortable save.

And in the 54th minute, there were strong appeals for a second goal when it looked as though the ball had crossed the line, but a goal wasn’t given.

However, just four minutes later the Hoops did score and it was one of the goal heroes from last weekend's victory over Hibernian at Celtic Park, Jodie Bartle, who was on hand to head the ball home to make it 2-0.

The Ghirls went close again as Larisey closed down the keeper, but the slippery surface took her feet away from her and the ball was smothered. Celtic continued to control the game and substitutes, Tegan Bowie and Abi Ferguson both had chances, but their efforts went wide.

However, it was an impressive and well-deserved 2-0 win for Celtic, who now have a Scottish Women's Cup semi-final to look forward to.
