Glasgow City began their league campaign with a 6-0 victory over Motherwell. However, Grant Scott’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat (3-2 on aggregate) to Swiss side Servette – ending their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign.

Welling said the team may be suffering from some tired legs after their midweek European fixtures, however, the forward said that won’t stop Fran Alonso’s sides preparation for the derby.

“They’re obviously coming to win the game and kick back after a defeat,” she said. “We fully expect that, and we know the players they have in their team and the quality.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we believe in ourselves.”

On her debut, Wellings was able to link up well with fellow summer signings Clarissa Larisey – who also donned the green and white for the first time against Aberdeen as a 73^rd minute substitute.

“Clarissa came on quite late into the game, but had such a massive impact,” Welling said.

“She was running at players, assisted me once as well, and got the penalty. She’s someone that I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with.”
