Manager Ange Postecoglou looked back on a good night’s football that saw Jota net his first Celtic goal while Liel Abada and David Turnbull also found the net in the game that took Celtic through to a League Cup semi-final spot against current holders, St Johnstone.

The Celts commanded the game from the start and it was three more than memorable goals that delivered the 3-0 win over Raith Rovers to take the manager through to Hampden for the first time as Hoops boss.

He said following the draw: “The important thing is we’re there. It’s going to be a great occasion and I’m sure the players will be looking forward to it.

“It’s a tough opponent, but if you’re in the semi-final of a cup, you’re not going to get an easy game, but, as I said, the important thing is we’re there and we’ve got an opportunity.”

He added: “The boys did a good job, we did what we had to do. We got on top early and dominated the game, which didn’t give them much room to get out of their half.

‘We got our goals and it was good to see both wingers get involved and get goals, and in the end I thought it was a good victory.’

“I thought we were controlling the game pretty well and sometimes in these games the first goal becomes really important.

“We kept our discipline and tried to break them open in the best way we can, it’s not always easy but the boys did a good job.”

One of the standouts on a night of highlights was young Adam Montgomery who, despite having already put in a string of great performances, seems to get increasingly better with each passing game.

The manager said: “He’s been very good, that’s the first time we’ve started him in his rightful position, unfortunately we couldn’t keep him there for the whole game, but he shows a lot of promise.

“The good thing about Monty is that he’s constantly wanting to learn and he’s got enormous self-belief irrespective of his age. He’s one that I think’s got a bright future ahead of him.”
